Pim A. van der Heiden

Pim A. van der Heiden is a Leiden-based artist who employs geographical strategies by means of urban explorations. In his actions he encounters the urban landscape in ways that invite toward an intentional consciousness; to intentionally experience public space in new ways. In his conceptions of the city, Pim is inspired by the ideas of Guy Debord and his Situationist movement. In addition to their concept of psychogeography, he aims to articulate the construction between the psychological and historical notion in city exploring, resulting in the practice of retrogeography.

The language of the city landscape can be heard in the many layers that the urban environment comprehends. By engaging in local initiatives, staged in the flux of everyday life, one finds a tool to disclose the underlying structures, rhythms and grooves in the public field, conventionally concealed beyond common facades.
