Natela Lemondzhava
Reflective mechanism
The work of Natela Lemondzhava experiments with the audience’s physical and mental reflection. In these experiments, the audience purely observes. She is not interested in breaking the boundaries between the piece and the audience. In fact, she want to emphasize it. Her intention is to engage them to concentrate and fully dedicate their time to themselves and to the piece. She captures this time and unexpectedly projecting it to them. Her aim is to have viewers in individual and collective experiences confront themselves with the image of their past and present at the same time. It’s about reacting on thoughts and previous experiences through the reflection of audience’s eyes, the eyes that experience a moment which is gone. As a consequence the audience become a subject and object in her works. These works are controlled, site-specific, concentrated performances. The audience is the topic that she applies in a structure of her performances, which she adopts to a specific place and situation. In her work she uses narration, body movement or video projection, which she investigate in tandem with the concept of the mind as a space for art.
